I was told to write a memo regarding patient fall…depressing as it is because it will surely affect my nursing care for patient and my report! Arrrrgggg… Here comes the long story!
Patient from Bed 2 was been push to the toilet and left alone there by the staff nurse maribeth to pass motion.
When patient is done, he pulls the call bell and I went to answer it.
Patient told me he wants to shower now but at that time due to busy
I ask patient if he can do it later as I told him that he can't be alone but he wishes to do it now so I agree.
I then went out to get a plastic bag to wrap his leg as his leg is cover with bandage and at the same time to inform staff nurse maribeth that patient is going to shower now. She Noted and reply ok. So I carry on.
I ask along the NYP student Rudy Huang to help me along. After wrapping his leg, arrange the place neat n spacious for him, we place him near to the shower area and lock the wheelchair!
Student Rudy Huang places his stuff within reach and as verbalize by patient that he can do it himself and ask us to leave!
Reinforce to patient a few times that when he is done or in need of help to pull the call bell! And told him not to do it himself if he can't to prevent fall!
We then left the toilet!
After 15minutes or so, student Rudy Huang told mi that he go and check on patient to ensure he is safe! According to Student, when he peeps in from e door, patient was still fine and having his shower and asks Student Rudy to leave!
So I carry on with my duties and was told later that patient had a fall!
So just what went wrong… I Know am my fault for not standby inside or asking e student to do so. Is my careless and mistake! Haiz perhaps jasmine and the girls is right I m not a good nurse! *****Stresss******
